Hole |
![]() Hole #4“High” This hole shares its name and a bit of its design with the eleventh hole at St. Andrews. The tee shot plays to an elevated green, which sits wide to the line of play, but not very deep. Proper distance control will be the key. The green is bunkered middle, front, and back. A bail-out area lies to the left. |
![]() Hole #8“Mak Siccar” “Make Sure” with every shot you play. Although this hole is not terribly long, it will require good distance control and accuracy. The tee shot is bunkered short left and long right. Then, a cross bunker bisects the line of play. The green will best receive an approach from the right. | OUT |
![]() Hole #12“Heich o’ Fash” This potential birdie hole could kill many a good round. The “Height of Trouble” refers to the green, which sits above a large drop-off to the left. Here sits the deepest bunker on the course. This hole may be reachable in two by longer hitters. A well-placed drive or second shot to the right will surrender an open approach to the green. |
![]() Hole #14“Denty Den” The “Pleasant Dell” is the beautiful spot where the green is situated on this drive-and-pitch hole. Framed by the San Francisco Bay, a poor tee shot could spoil your view. Some of the longer hitters can try to drive this green if the wind is right. A tee shot taken over the left edge of the small hill will kick toward the green. For shorter hitters, a tee shot played to the left will offer a view of the green, but errant shots to the right may require a blind pitch over the hill. | IN | TOT | Men's | Women's | ||||||||||||||

Hole #15 “Kittle Kink”
Long par 4
429 yards
Here you have a “Ticklish Bend,” meaning a dogleg around the lake. This classic “cape” hole is the ultimate in risk-reward. Usually playing against the wind, a tee shot hit near the lake will leave the most open and shortest approach to the green.

Designed by John Harbottle in 2001, Monarch Bay Golf Club’s 18-hole (Tony Lema) links course is situated along San Francisco Bay in San Leandro, California. At 7,015 yards with a demanding slope rating of 130, our 18-hole championship Lema course features well-placed, deep bunkers and rolling Paspalum fairways. The Lema course features well-guarded Poa Annua and Bentgrass greens that are walked, mowed, and rolled in the old tradition. Our signature sixteenth hole is a long 598-yard par 5 that heads you back towards the clubhouse and runs adjacent to the San Francisco Bay; and while your goal will be to avoid the 10 bunkers that help define this beautiful hole, players will probably only remember the breathtaking views of the San Mateo Bridge, Oakland Airport, and downtown San Francisco. Monarch Bay Golf Club also offers a fun and well laid-out 9-hole par 29 executive course measuring 1,734 yards for golfers looking to squeeze in a round after work or for beginners getting acquainted with the game.
